Taking a dog or cat to Bahrain from the UK

Travelling with your dog or cat from the UK to Bahrain requires advance preparation, including an import permit, specific vaccinations and a final veterinary examination shortly before departure.

Pets travelling from the UK require Export Health Certificate, which must be completed and certified by an authorised Official Veterinarian.

Because several of the vaccination requirements have strict timing rules, it is important to start planning well in advance of your intended travel date.

Step-by-Step Guide: Importing your dog or cat from the UK to Bahrain

Check Eligibility & Microchip

Your pet must be microchipped before travel. Puppies and kittens under 3 months old are not permitted entry into Bahrain.

Certain dog breeds are also prohibited, including Pit Bulls, Staffordshire Terriers, Mastiffs, Japanese Tosas and Presa Canarios, as well as their crosses or hybrids.

Complete the Required Vaccinations

All dogs and cats require a rabies vaccination.

Dogs must also be vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and leptospirosis, while cats require feline panleukopenia vaccination.

All required vaccinations must be given more than 30 days and less than 6 months before export and supported by appropriate vaccination records.

Obtain Your Bahrain Import Permit

All dogs and cats require a Bahrain Import Permit, also referred to as a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

The permit is valid for 30 days from the date of issue, so it should be timed around your intended

travel date.

Arrange Your Export Health Certificate

Your pet requires Export Health Certificate EHC 3889, which must be completed and certified by an authorised Official Veterinarian.

Your vaccination certificates will also need to accompany the EHC.

Final Veterinary Examination

Your pet must undergo a final health examination by the Official Veterinarian within 48 hours of departure.

During this appointment, the OV will examine your pet, review the required documentation and, provided all requirements are met, complete and certify the Export Health Certificate.

Before departure, make sure you have your pet's Import Permit, Export Health Certificate and vaccination records, together with any documentation required by your airline.
