Quick follow-up - documents for your appointment
Dogs can only enter Japan via approved airports/seaports (cats are generally not restricted, but confirm early if using a less common port).

Microchip first
Your pet must have an ISO 11784/11785 microchip — rabies vaccines given before microchipping are usually not accepted.

Rabies vaccines x2
Rabies #1 when your pet is 91+ days old, then rabies #2 ≥30 days later (inactivated/recombinant vaccines only).

Rabies antibody blood test (RNATT)
• After rabies #2, do the blood test (pass mark ≥0.5 IU/ml) using the designated lab route, and keep the original lab report.
• 180-day wait (non-negotiable): you must wait at least 180 days from the blood sample date before arrival in Japan (arriving early can mean detention until 180 days is met).

Notify Japan AQS
Submit advance notification ≥40 days before arrival to receive the AQS approval/receipt number (needed for travel + certification).

Request EHC 6407 via DEFRA once your port/flight is confirmed and AQS approval is in hand (the certificate must match those details).
