UK pets must meet strict import requirements, including microchipping, rabies vaccination, an approved Malaysia import permit, and an official Export Health Certificate. We guide you through each step to ensure full compliance with MAQIS regulations and a smooth arrival process.
Step by step guide: importing your Dog or Cat from the UK to Malaysia

Check if your pet can travel
Before starting, check your dog is not a prohibited or restricted breed for import into Malaysia. Some breeds are not allowed, while others require written approval from MAQIS before an import permit can be issued.

Confirm microchip and vaccination status
Your pet must have an ISO-compliant microchip and valid vaccination records. Rabies vaccination must usually be given at least 21 days before travel, and routine vaccinations should be up to date.

Apply for the Malaysia import permit
All pets entering Malaysia need an approved import permit from MAQIS. Owners can apply directly or appoint a Malaysian pet relocation agent to assist. The permit must match the export paperwork exactly.

Prepare the UK Export Health Certificate
Malaysia requires EHC 3914, which must be requested from DEFRA once you confirm us as your chosen Official Veterinarian.
This is then prepared by an Official Veterinarian and should be timed carefully around your travel date and import permit validity.

Complete the final health check
Malaysia requires a final veterinary examination within 48 hours of departure. At this appointment, the OV checks your pet, scans the microchip, completes the certificate, and issues the original paperwork.

Travel with the original documents
Your pet must travel with the original Export Health Certificate, import permit, and supporting documents. These will be checked on arrival in Malaysia.

Arrival in Malaysia
On arrival, Malaysian authorities will check the import permit, health certificate, microchip, and travel documents. If everything matches and is compliant, pets travelling from the UK are generally not required to quarantine.
