Check your microchip & rabies vaccination

Your pet must have an ISO-compliant microchip that matches all supporting documents.

Your rabies vaccination must have been given more than 30 days but less than 12 months before travel. If the vaccine is too recent or has expired, your travel plans may need to be delayed. You'll also need your original rabies vaccination certificate.

Apply for your import permit

A Mozambique Import Permit is required before travel:

• Usually valid for 60 days

• Processing typically takes 5–7 business days

• Apply as soon as your travel dates are confirmed, as the permit is needed before your Export Health Certificate can be finalise

Confirm your travel route

Many flights to Mozambique transit through cities such as Johannesburg, Nairobi or Addis Ababa.

Check with your airline whether any transit country has additional pet travel requirements, particularly if your pet is travelling as cargo or changing flights.

Arrange the required parasite treatments

Treatment for internal and external parasites is mandatory before travel.

We'll advise you on the correct products and timing, ensuring they are administered within the
required pre-export window.

Final veterinary appointment

Within 48 hours of departure, we'll:

• Perform the final clinical examination

• Verify your pet's microchip

• Confirm or administer the required parasite treatments

• Complete and issue the EHC 4143

By this stage, your import permit and supporting documents should already be in place.

Travel with the original documents

Carry all original paperwork, including:

• Export Health Certificate

• Mozambique Import Permit

• Rabies vaccination certificate.

• Any additional documents required by your airline or transit country.
