Taking a dog or cat to Oman from the UK

Taking your dog or cat from the UK to Oman requires some advance planning, particularly because of the rabies vaccination, blood test and waiting period involved. You’ll also need to arrange an Oman Import Permit and have an Export Health Certificate completed shortly before departure.

Check Your Pet Is Eligible

Dogs and cats must be over 4 months old to travel to Oman. Certain dog breeds and their crosses are prohibited, so check your pet’s eligibility before making travel arrangements.

Microchip & Vaccinations

Your pet must be microchipped and have a valid rabies vaccination, given at least 1 month and no more than 11 months before export.

Dogs and cats should also be up to date with their routine vaccinations and have an up-to-date vaccination record. Make sure the same microchip number appears across all veterinary and travel

documents.

Rabies Titre Blood Test

A rabies antibody titre test (RNATT/FAVN) is required. The blood sample should be taken 21–30 days after the rabies vaccination. At least 3 months must pass from the date the laboratory result is issued before travel, and the result must be no more than 12 months old.

Obtain Your Oman Import Permit

An Oman Import Permit must be obtained before travel. Apply in advance and carefully check the owner, pet, microchip and vaccination details once it has been issued.

Confirm Your Travel Arrangements

Confirm your flights and check your airline’s requirements, including crate specifications, breed restrictions and whether your pet will travel as baggage or cargo. Any requirements for countries

you transit through should also be checked.

Export Health Certificate & Final Examination

Pets travelling from the UK require an Export Health Certificate EHC 3933, completed by an authorised Official Veterinarian.

Your pet must undergo their final veterinary examination within 48 hours before the day of departure. Your OV will check the microchip, examine your pet, review the import permit and supporting documents, and complete the certificate.

Prepare Your Documents & Travel

Keep your Oman Import Permit, Export Health Certificate, rabies vaccination certificate, rabies titre result, vaccination records and airline documents together and easily accessible.

Your pet should travel in an appropriate airline-approved carrier or crate meeting applicable IATA requirements, ready for the import checks on arrival in Oman.
