Taking a dog or cat to Taiwan from the UK
Travelling with your dog or cat from Great Britain to Taiwan requires some advance preparation.
Your pet will need to meet Taiwan's identification, rabies vaccination and residency requirements, obtain an Import Quarantine Permit, and travel with an Export Health Certificate completed by an Official Veterinarian.
The United Kingdom is currently recognised by Taiwan as a rabies-free country, which makes the process considerably simpler for pets that meet the required residency conditions.

Step-by-Step Guide: Importing your dog or cat from the UK to Taiwan
1

Microchip & Rabies Vaccination
Your pet must be microchipped and have a valid inactivated rabies vaccination given when they were at least 90 days old.
The rabies vaccination must be administered at least 30 days and no more than 1 year before entering Taiwan.
2

Check the Residency Requirement
To travel under Taiwan’s rabies-free-country requirements, your pet must have lived in a recognised rabies-free country for at least 180 days before travel, or continuously since birth if younger than 180 days.
If your pet has recently travelled outside the UK, additional requirements may apply.
3

Obtain an Import Quarantine Permit
Apply for an Import Quarantine Permit at least 20 days before arrival in Taiwan.
You will need supporting documents including your pet’s rabies vaccination certificate and importer identification.
4

Export Health Certificate
Your pet will need an Export Health Certificate (3149EHC) completed by an Official Veterinarian before travelling - this needs to be done within 2 days of departure.
The OV will examine your pet, check their microchip and supporting documentation, and certify the required health, rabies vaccination and residency information.
5

Travel & Arrival
Travel with your pet’s Import Quarantine Permit and original Export Health Certificate.
On arrival in Taiwan, your pet and documents will be presented for import quarantine inspection. You should also have the relevant air waybill, bill of lading or customs documentation available.
