Pet Travel from the UK to the United Arab Emirates: Dog & Cat Import Requirements
Travelling with your pet to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) requires careful planning and strict compliance with the country’s import regulations. Dogs and cats entering the UAE must meet specific requirements including vaccinations, import permits, and an official Export Health Certificate (EHC) issued by a UK Official Veterinarian. This step-by-step guide explains everything you need to know about pet travel from the UK to Dubai and the UAE, helping you prepare your pet safely and avoid delays during the import process.
01

Confirm UAE Eligibility
Before travelling, check your pet meets the UAE’s import requirements.
Key rules include:
-
Dogs and cats must be at least 4 months old
-
Maximum 2 pets per person per year
-
Pets must travel as manifest cargo
-
Certain restricted dog breeds may not be permitted entry
If you are unsure about breed restrictions, we can advise before starting the process.
02

Microchip & Vaccinations
Your pet must have an ISO-compliant microchip, a valid rabies vaccination, and up-to-date core vaccinations before travel.
In most cases:
-
Rabies must be given at least 21 days before travel
-
Core vaccinations must be current within 12 months
We will review all vaccination records to ensure compliance.
03

Import Permit & Flight Booking
Before travel, you will need to:
-
Arrange your pet’s flight booking
-
Apply for the official UAE Import Permit through the UAE authorities
The import permit is valid for 90 days, and all travel details must match your supporting documents.
04

Export Health Certificate & Treatments
The UAE requires EHC 3926, issued through DEFRA and completed by an Official Veterinarian (OV).
Your pet must also receive internal and external parasite treatment within 14 days of travel, which we record on the export paperwork.
05

Final Health Check & Certificate Issued
Within 24 hours of travel, your pet will need a final veterinary examination to confirm they are healthy and fit to fly.
Once complete, we issue the official Export Health Certificate, allowing your pet to travel to the UAE.
